by DH Lawrence

adapted by Chris Harris

Research & Development | July 2019

Director | Luke William Hereford

Cast | Kate Elis, Gwenllian Higginson & Jack Ronan

This new bilingual adaptation places DH Lawrence's tense and intimate tale in the desolate hills of the Welsh farmlands at the end of the First World War. Food is scarce and the harsh winter is coming. Jill Banford and Ellen March are two young farmers happily managing their own livelihoods, even when a young English soldier returns home to lodge with them through the winter. This bilingual Welsh and English language play fuses language, movement and music in a story of power and isolation.
